Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
MANTRA
For healing, courage and protection — the great “victory over death” mantra of Lord Shiva, from the Rig Veda.
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥
Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti-Vardhanam, Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Mamritat.
Meaning
We worship the three-eyed Lord Shiva, fragrant and nourishing of all beings — as the ripe cucumber is released from its vine, may we be freed from bondage, towards the immortal.
How to Recite
Traditionally recited for inner strength during illness or difficulty, often 108 times with a rudraksha mala, especially on Mondays and during Shravan.
