SHLOKA

Praise of the Divine Mother — from the Tantroktam Devi Suktam of the Devi Mahatmya (Durga Saptashati). The Mother is saluted as she who abides in all beings, in form after form.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शक्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarva-Bhuteshu Shakti-Rupena Samsthita,
Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु बुद्धिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarva-Bhuteshu Buddhi-Rupena Samsthita… — as buddhi (wisdom) in all beings.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarva-Bhuteshu Shanti-Rupena Samsthita… — as shanti (peace) in all beings.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु श्रद्धारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarva-Bhuteshu Shraddha-Rupena Samsthita… — as shraddha (faith) in all beings.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु दयारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarva-Bhuteshu Daya-Rupena Samsthita… — as daya (compassion) in all beings.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु मातृरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarva-Bhuteshu Matri-Rupena Samsthita… — as the Mother in all beings.

Meaning

To the Devi who abides in all beings as shakti, as wisdom, as peace, as faith, as compassion and as the Mother herself — salutations to her, salutations to her, salutations to her, again and again.

When It Is Recited

Especially during Navratri and Durga puja, and whenever the blessing and strength of the Mother is sought.
